Event ID: 1000 Source: ClusSvc

Microsoft Clustering Service suffered an unexpected fatal error at line '<line>' of source module '<source path>'. The error code was '<error code>'.
This problem occurred when we setup a Windows 2003 Cluster server. At first all worked ok. The next day I came in and opened up the cluster administrator, it failed to show the cluster and eventually came up with an error 5 message. I tried to restart the service and this failed. I looked in the event log and got this event. I checked, and all permissions were ok. I noticed that the operation team had rolled out our anti-virus software. I stopped the antivirus client, tried to start the cluster service and it worked. We excluded the relevant files from being scanned by the anti-virus to resolve the problem.
The latest Service Pack for Windows NT 4.0 should resolve some instances of this problem. See ME185212 for more details.
- Error code: 1 - As per Microsoft: "This problem can occur if the logical volume is the second or later volume on the extended partition". See ME272771 for more details.
- Error code: 5 - To resolve this issue, configure the antivirus program so that it does not scan the MSCS folder on the quorum disk. See ME321531 for more details.
- Error code: 112 - As per Microsoft: "This behavior can occur if the disk that contains the Quorum log file does not have any free disk space". See ME251284 for more details.

In addition, you might want to check ME266274 for Cluster Service startup troubleshooting.
- Error 6 - See the link to Error code 6 for a generic description of this problem.
