Error 52 = "A duplicate name exists on the network". This doesn't necessarily mean that there are two machines with the same name. It can also be caused by having a "multihomed" machine with two network cards connected to the same physical network (or at least that would cause it under previous versions of Windows), and I also noticed it a couple of times after moving a machine to a different physical location (other subnet, but accessible from the original location though a router) more specifically, by disconnecting it from the LAN and then accessing it through RAS or RRAS)".
