This error occurred on a Windows 2000 Professional, SP4 system with the entire Office 2003 suite installed. The system log entry showed the faulting module to be ntdll.dll, version 5.0.2195.7006. All Office applications would hang after several minutes of use and some applications would hang on startup. The issue appears to have occurred after installing Acrobat 6, when the default printer changed to Adobe PDF. After changing the default printer back to the network printer, the problem disappeared.
