Event ID/Source search
Keyword searchExample: Windows cannot unload your registry file
Event ID: 1008 Source: Winlogon
Failed to load/unload the profile for user <user name>.
|English: Request a translation of the event description in plain English.|
|Concepts to understand:|
What is a user profile?
What is the role of the Winlogon service?
As per Microsoft: "One very likely cause is that the registry has exceeded the default limit of 12 megabytes (MB). This is easy to do if many users log on to the Terminal Server". See ME186615 and MSW2KDB to fix this problem.
As per Microsoft: "Explanation: This event record indicates that the specified profile could not be unloaded for the user.". Well, this was not hard to guess... In other words, the profile is either not available (network problems) or is corrupted. Verify where is the profile stored and if the location is available from the workstation that reported the error.
