Event ID/Source search
Keyword searchExample: Windows cannot unload your registry file
Event ID: 104 Source: Folder Redirection
|Source: Folder Redirection|
Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents. The system registry could not be updated. The following error occurred:
Access is denied.
|English: Request a translation of the event description in plain English.|
See Error code 5 link for a generic description when "access denied" is recorded.
From a newsgroup post: "This error could only be originated from a shell API that sets new redirection location in the registry. Check event log for any problems with user profile. If user profile failed to load there could be some issues with using temporary user profile.
If there are no issues with user profile, then verify permissions on the registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
You can do it using regedit on XP and above. On Windows 2000 you will have to use regedt32. The registry keys above should have read/write permissions for current user."
