|Concepts to understand:|
What is the .NET framework?
What is the Common Language Runtime (CLR)?
What is the role of the CLR Optimization Service?
As an additional clue, the 0x80070002 error code that is used by other Windows-related programs is caused by missing files.
From various support forums:
- "In my case the problem was fixed when I reinstalled SQL Server."
- "I fixed the problem by simply setting the NET Runtime Optimization Service v2.0.50727_X86 service to start automatically."
Verify that the service is started. By default it is set to manual.
From a newsgroup post: "Removing the SQL2005 workstation client gets rid of the error. A reboot is necessary".
In my case, a reboot solved this problem.
