Event ID: 11158 Source: DnsApi

The system failed to register pointer (PTR) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings:

   Adapter Name : {<GUID>}
   Host Name : <erver>
   Adapter-specific Domain Suffix : <domain suffix>
   DNS server list : <DNS IP>
   Sent update to server : <IP>
   IP Address : <IP>

The reason that the system could not register these RRs was because (a) either the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol or (b) the authoritative zone where these records are to be registered does not allow dynamic updates.

To register DNS pointer (PTR) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter contact your DNS server or network systems administrator.
I had this error appear on several domains. Both times the problem was related to configuration errors on the DNS server(s).
In the first case, a reverse lookup zone was not created for the subnet. Creating an Active Directory-Integrated reverse lookup zone and enabling secure dynamic updates resolved the problem.
In the second case, an active directory reverse lookup zone existed on both DNS servers. Dynamic updates were not allowed. Changing the setting to allow Secure Only dynamic updates resolved the problem.
