You may experience this problem when the following conditions are true:
1.Lazy aggregation is running.
2.A dimension that is used as the basis for multiple virtual dimensions is dropped and then re-created.

Microsoft articles ME299005 and ME819020 also provide hotfixes applicable to Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

As per Microsoft: "After running an incremental update on an Analysis Services cube with a Distinct Count measure as the first or only measure defined in the cube, the server may shut down when subsequent objects are processed in the Analysis Services database". This event is also logged in the Application log. See ME298485 and ME829899 for details on this problem.
