Raid Server Alert
Message : Registration failed.
|English: Request a translation of the event description in plain English.|
RAID_SERVER is a service that monitors the LSI (or older AMI) MegaRAID adapter. This error appears in the application event log when you try to start the RAID_SERVER service. This error indicates that the (RAID_SERVER) service could not find the registration server. It could be that the registration server is down, or that you have a miss-configuration.
The registration server is the REG_SERVER service and does not necessarily have to be on the same machine that the raid card (on which the RAID_SERVER service runs). The apparent job of the REG_SERVER service is to maintain a list of available servers that have registered with it for management by the Power Console Plus application.
The RAID_SERVER service finds the REG_SERVER service by looking in the Windows\system32\drivers\etc\REGSERV.DAT file. This file should have two lines the first line should contain ONLY the name of the server upon which the REG_SERVER service is running the second line should be empty (blank). Once it has the name, it looks in the Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file for the IP address. By the way, this does NOT use DNS lookups at all.
