One suggested way of troubleshooting this error was to use network sniffer to identify the source of the traffic that is causing this. In one case, the user identified the source as being a network management software that was scanning the network and try to identify computers and the services they use.

Some support forum posts suggested that this event may indicate an attempt to hack into the SQL server. If the server is exposed to the Internet directly (or the relevant ports are open) one should make sure that the server is not compromised.
