Build a great reporting interface using Splunk, one of the leaders in the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) field, linking the collected Windows events to www.eventid.net. The EventId.Net for Splunk Add-on assumes that Splunk is collecting information from Windows servers and workstation via the Splunk Universal Forwarder.

In my case, I could log in via the console with my domain credentials, but RDP would error out with "Logon rejected for <user> Unable to obtain Terminal Server User Configuration. Error: The RPC server is unavailable."
I could browse to other computers via Network Places, but was getting Access Denied when I'd try to browse to the problem machine from another box. I was also getting Event ID 11167 from DNSAPI, Event ID 5719 from Netlogon, and Event ID 1219 from Winlogon. I tried every fix out there from all of the different sites (including Eventid.net) with no success. Finally, I looked at Winsock2 and noticed that it was corrupt! The server was a Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 and I ran "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt, which fixed the issue. In my case, I had to re-add the server to the domain, but that's only because I''d just removed it to troubleshoot. You may be able to get away with just resetting winsock and rebooting the server. You can find more information about troubleshooting Winsock problems at ME811259.
