As per a user suggestion: "You might want to try this:
1. Stop all MTA service on both sites
2. run MTAcheck
3. run MTAcheck /rd /v
4. check for any corrupted DAT file in the MTADATA\MTACHECK.OUT folder and remove them
5. run MTAcheck /rp /v
6. repeat step 4
7. last run MTAcheck once more time.
8. restart MTA service.:
9. Do the same for the other server.
The process I describe above will clean up any corrupted/ghost DAT file in the MTADATA folder".
