If the Mtacheck utility is run against a database that was not shut down properly, Mtacheck deletes files that are greater than Db007fff.dat file, and when the MTA starts, it logs this event. See ME271600 for details on this issue.

As per Microsoft: "Customers who experience this problem on version 4.0 Exchange servers will need to upgrade to Exchange 5.5. Customers experiencing this problem on Exchange 5.0, will need to upgrade to Service Pack 2". See ME177887 and ME235534 for more details.
