Event ID: 296 Source: NICAgents

component: NIC Management Agent Error: A driver for a NIC failed to open.
I disabled VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter (basic host-only support for VMnet1) and VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter (Network Address Translation (NAT) for VMnet8), since I only use Bridge Network. After this, the error disappeared.
This seems to be an issue with Compaq 6.0+ management agents. Have to revert to 5.5. This happened in my case when using VMWare.
Could be caused by VMWare virtual NICs. Disable the VMWare virtual NIC's when not in use.
This error can be caused by an improperly installed adapter. Removing and reinstalling all adapters may correct the problem. The NIC Agent service will not respond to any management requests.
