This event is simply recording the failure of the backup job. The TDP log file and schedule log should contain more information about the nature of the problem.

From a support forum, for event description "Failure Executing Schedule SQL_BACKUP, RC=9009", it turned out that the backup utility name (tdpsqlc) has been changed. As a consequence, the script using it failed to initiate the backup and caused this error to be recorded.
I have found a pretty solid resolution path for any issues around Windows 2003 VSS backup errors. Have gathered it and tested it over several month and 45 servers. I can tell that it managed to resolved VSS related issues in 99% of the cases. Here is some links and procedures on how to resolve the problems. Please note, for some of those fixes you'll need to download the patches from Microsoft Support site, most of those fixes are not implemented through Windows Update Site.

The numbers beside the updates represent the order at which it needs to be installed.
Restart the system when it requests so.
