What is a parity error?
As per Microsoft: "There was a parity error during a direct memory access (DMA) transfer. Typically, this means that the cable connecting the drive to the computer is failing. Replace the cable". See MSW2KDB for more details.
First check your IDE cables and connectors. A faulty cable can cause the error. Then check the hard disk for errors. Sometimes a faulty controller may also cause the error. If there are no hardware problem you can use Driver Verifier (verifier.exe) or other diagnostic tools to check all the drivers and find the culprit. Using Verifier somebody found the error was caused by a Zone Alarm driver. Uninstalling Zone Alarm solved the problem. For details regarding Verifier see ME244617.
