Build a great reporting interface using Splunk, one of the leaders in the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) field, linking the collected Windows events to www.eventid.net. The EventId.Net for Splunk Add-on assumes that Splunk is collecting information from Windows servers and workstation via the Splunk Universal Forwarder.

Could not load <device name> device driver.

This event came up on the system log after trying to restart the workstation service after a Win2K professional workstation had lost network connection. The reason why the network connection failed is unknown; it happened repeatedly in lab environment after large network traffic to and from the machine. This event was followed by an 7024 event.
Restarting the network was impossible; the only solution was a reboot. The problem was solved by changing the NIC driver (the lab PC had a 3com 3C905C NIC, Windows 2000 driver loaded) and loading 3com''s driver. See also the link in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit.
