As per Microsoft: "This problem occurs because the SQL Server service is running under a startup account that has the format .\UserName. In this case, the VSS cannot identify the service account of SQL Server". See ME912414 for information on solving this problem.
See ME904418 for a hotfix applicable to Microsoft SQL Server 2000, when used with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition.

As per Microsoft: "This problem occurs when the backup program tries to use a Sqlvdi.dll file that has been unregistered. Typically, the Sqlvdi.dll file can become unregistered when you uninstall SQL Server Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000) from a computer that is also running Microsoft SQL Server 2000".
