Event ID: 6482 Source: OfficeSharePointServer

Application Server Administration job failed for service instance <instance>.

Reason: <reason>

Techinal Support Details: <details>.
- Reason: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80005006 - Apply hotfix ME946517 to solve this problem.
See ME949955 and ME949956 for hotfixes applicable to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
In my case, giving the Search Service account local start and activation rights for OSearch Application in DCOM Management cleared the error.
The COMPUTERNAME\WSS_ADMIN_WPG Group requires Modify rights on the HOSTS file to add any sites created in SharePoint to the file. After applying these rights, the error went away.
In my situation, this error was appearing every minute in the Application log. It was accompanied by event 7000 and 7041 from source Service Control Manager in the System log. It turned out that the Windows SharePoint Services Search account did not have the "logon as a service" right on the SharePoint server. Adding the right cleared the problem immediately.

Gayan Peiris's SharePoint Blog points to a hotfix applicable to Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. The hotfix is available at ME923028.
The solution from "Mindys Blog" worked for me.
