(Last update 7/20/2004): As per Microsoft: "This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer". See MSW2KDB for more details. From a newsgroup post: "Check the UDMA settings on the IDE channel to which the CDRW/ZIP Drive are attached. I was getting peculiar behavior because Windows 2000 had turned on UDMA for my CDROM (which is definitely not UDMA capable). Also ZIP drives should not be on a port that has UDMA enabled".
