Comment: I have this same problem with a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 server running on VMWare.  All updates except Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool regularly fail on download with errorCode 0x8000ffff, "unknown error".  This has been going on since the server was created in July.  Other similar servers do not seem to have this problem.
