This error is relevant to programmers. It indicates that a certain field (that the programming interface was expecting) was not found. However, this may be an indication to network administrators as well. For example, a user tried to assign permissions to an Active Directory distribution group. The assignment would fail with this error and that is because a distribution group (as opposed to a security group) does not have a SID (the missing field) and that is required in order to use assign permissions to an AD object.
