This error appears when a critical system file or other file needed to load Windows is corrupted. Identify the file that is damaged and replace it with the original file.
Installing an inappropriate driver for your hardware will also cause this error to appear. If you just installed new hardware, make sure that the appropriate driver was installed on the system.
A corrupt pagefile can also be the cause of this error, as well as bad or incompatible memory. M172340 provides some guidelines on how to repair the pagefile. You can use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check the RAM for problems.
As per M314474, this problem may occur if an Iomega Zip drive is on the same integrated device electronics (IDE) cable as the hard disk drive.
